STROKE REHABILITATION

The goal of stroke rehabilitation is to help you relearn skills you lost when a stroke affected part of your brain. Stroke rehabilitation can help you regain independence and improve your quality of life. Often, stroke patients will experience hemiparesis (weakness of one side of the body), we can help them regain strength on the affected side and move their affected limbs through therapy. Patients who suffered a stroke should be seen immediately by a physiotherapist because the stage just after the stroke is when the brain is most receptive to forming new habits.

PHYSICAL THERAPY FOR AUTISM SPECTRUM DISORDER (ASD)

Physical therapists are movement specialists. They are in a unique position to help children with ASD. Physiotherapists help children with ASD develop their gross motor skills and basic movement skills. These skills help children with ASD play games, sports, and take part in physical education with their peers. Our team has years of experience and training to help children with ASD gain their full potential. Research has shown that the main issues often are low tone, gait abnormalities and motor planning.

Below are examples of the way our team can help with theses areas.

Gross motor skills- Our team offers exercises and treatment in your home to help your child learn effective movement patterns, improve balance and coordination through functional play.

Gait- Our team will help teach your child how to stretch shortened muscles or strengthen weaker muscles while working on overall gait biomechanics.

Tone- While tone cannot be changed, as it’s inherent to the neurological system, strength can be improved to compensate.

Motor planning- Our team can help improve this with specific training and goal setting with both the parents and the child.

FALL PREVENTION

With our training we can reduce both the risk and the rate of falls in older adults, while improving physical functioning, balance, and muscle strength.  Some common factors that increase fall risks are muscle weakness, poor balance and gait foot problems, proprioception issues, poor vision.

With our program we can help with strength, physical function, balance, and overall wellbeing to give you back your confidence in performing daily activities independently.

POST-SURGERY REHABILITATION

Active rehabilitation following surgery is safe and very important because it will help prevent functional declines related to bed rest. The following are some key roles that post-surgical rehabilitation offers:

  • Improve movement and range of motion in the part of your body where you had surgery.

  • Strengthen your muscles.

  • Reduce pain.

  • Help you walk again.

  • Teach you to do daily activities, such as climb stairs, get up from a chair or bed, get in and out of a car, get dressed, and bathe etc.

PHYSICAL STRENGTHENING

Losses in muscle mass can lead to increased disability, frailty, fatigue, and falls. Physical strengthening has been shown to be an effective means to combat these functional losses. We offer personalized exercises to promote circulation and mobility to reduce muscular weakness.
